Thelma Jane Wright


Thelma Jane Wright (Ausburn) of Blacklick, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 21,2011 surrounded by family after an extended illness. She is preceded in death by loving husband SSGT Michael T. Wright; parents William Smith and Bessie Justice; sisters W. Juanita Hornacker, Rose M Fleshman; brother Johnny Avillez; special aunts: Nancy Bryson and Essie Lee Butler. Survived by her children, Alvin T. Leonard of New York City, New York; Linda C. Owens (R.Rinner) of Columbus, Ohio, Gwendolyn R. Owens of Akron, Ohio; Lisa C Carter (Kevin McDonald) of Blacklick, Ohio; Charles J (Luz) Ausburn iv of Los Angeles, California, Kenneth W. (Angela) Ausburn of Columbus Ohio; Kevin T (Michelle) Ausburn of Gurnee, Illinois; 19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; cousin, Jeffrey Bryson. Thelma was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on August 29, 1936. She spent most of her childhood between Cincinnati, Williamson, WV and Pikeville KY. At an early age she committed herself to family and community service. While stationed in Las Vegas, Nevada with her husband she made an impact as Coordinator of USAF Family services making numerous contributions Military Mother of the Year Clark County 1980. After the death of her husband in 1981 she returned to Ohio. She became a member of Brookwood Presbyterian Church serving the church as a deacon and an elder. Through these positions she was able to accomplish many strides in community services. Thelma was asked to coordinate the food pantry by her pastor Thomas Mori. To insure the success of the food pantry she enlisted the help of Bishop Hartley High School, Columbus Academy and Panera Bread for truckloads of food donations to maintain an adequate food pantry. Thelma enlisted the help of the elder board of Brookwood Presbyterian church to introduce a reading program at Main Street Elementary school the elders rotated weekly and read to the students. Thelma reiterated Brookwood 's commitment to homeless, the hungry and the concept of family in the community. She instituted the glove and hat Christmas tree at Brookwood to provide gloves and hats to inner city school children that continues today through the church pantry she reached the Appalachian community and the inner city to provide Thanksgiving baskets annually. Brookwood pantry teamed with Abbott Foods to provide milk to each pantry recipient. Last but not least remembered a forever relationship with Bert George of Georges Market for her loyalty and support with her efforts in her many contributions at Brookwood Presbyterian Church Programs coordinated through her efforts at Brookwood Presbyterian Church continue today as a testimony of her legacy. Member of Twigs 110 of Children's Hospital. Mt Carmel Auxiliary Volunteer. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Brookwood Presbyterian Church Food Pantry in Honor of Thelma J. Wright. Special thanks to Tridea Hospice, Cheyenne Martin RN and Quinn Brown HHA, Yona Ford and Renee Davis of Abling Hands Home Heath Care for the love and care of our mother and family., Bernice Wallace for her continuous love and support. Memorial service Friday, October 28, 2011 2:00 PM Brookwood Presbyterian Church 2685 E. Livingston Ave. where friends may call from 1:00 PM until time of service.
