Obituary

Ann Taber Hassett, 97, of Columbus, Ohio died June 21, 2024, at Mother Angeline McCrory Manor, Columbus, Ohio.  Born February 14, 1927, in Auburn, New York. She was an honors graduate of both Holy Family School in Auburn and the College of Mt. St. Vincent/ St. Vincent Hospital in New York City, where she earned her BS in Nursing.  She began working at a major hospital in Syracuse, where she was promoted to floor supervisor, then spent many years as a full-time mother of four and homemaker.  When her mother, and subsequently her mother-in-law, required senior care, Ann returned to nursing, becoming the Assistant Director of Nursing at Marian Manor in Pittsburgh, PA to remain personally involved in their care. She was a devout Roman Catholic and longtime member of the Ladies of Charity, with whom she organized a program in the 1960s to visit shut-ins in Pittsburgh's Hill District.  She served as a Eucharistic Minister, Sacristan and Lector at St. Thomas More in Bethel Park, PA and the Villas at St. Therese in Columbus.  She was a devoted and loving wife and mother, who lives on in the memory of her family.  She is predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Paul J. Hassett, Jr., her parents Silas Taber and Isabelle Nagle Taber, and her brother William R. Taber and survived by her children, Michael Hassett and Ilene Karpf of Edison, NJ, Mary Ellen Hassett-Elam and Mark Elam of Crossville, TN, Paul J. Hassett III of Reynoldsburg, OH and Corrine Anne Hassett and Christian Reitmeyer of East Lyme, CT; her grandchildren, Matthew Hassett and Danielle Wozney, Shannon Hassett, John Taber Reitmeyer and Joseph Reitmeyer; and her great granddaughter, Elizabeth Ilene Hassett. Funeral Mass Monday, July 8, 2024, 10:00 AM Mother Angeline McCrory Manor 5199 E. Broad St. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm, 25 Noe Bixby Road, Columbus, OH 43213 or Catholic Charities USA, P.O.
