Brenda Sue Hackney, age 79 of Columbus, passed peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2026, at home while under hospice care.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, Luke; her parents; her brothers Chuck, Kenny, Carl, Glen and Perk; her sisters Shirley and Pat; and her daughter Marsha.
Brenda leaves behind her children: Micheal (Cheryl) Hackney, William "Jerry" Hackney, Charles Hackney, and Luke Hackney; grandchildren Laura (Greg) Winchester, Jenna Hackney, Derick Hackney, Marie (Joshua) Spaulding, Kristy Hackney, Taylor Hackney, Marisa Hackney, Alexis Hackney and  Zachary Hackney;  great-grandchildren Madison, Rylie, Brayden, Khloe, Joshua, Curtis, Zane, and Luther; her sister Mary, her brothers Dennis, Eddie and Tommy, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Brenda was born in Burnwell, KY May 20, 1946, to Blanche & Perchie Loggins.  She was one of 12 children.  The family eventually moved to Columbus, OH where Brenda graduated from high school.  Brenda married the love of her life, Luke Hackney, on June 6, 1970, at the age of 20.  Brenda lived a rich and meaningful life and deeply cherished her family. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mom, grandmother and great grandmother. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her life.   She loved hosting large holiday gatherings and was a wonderful cook, including the best fried green tomatoes, banana pudding and baking powder biscuits.

Throughout her life, Brenda was employed at various places including working in a glass factory, helping with the family business, and driving a school bus. She was a long-time member of Moose Lodge 1245. Brenda loved gardening, thrift store shopping, horseshoe tournaments with her husband, casino fun with her friend Linda, and relaxing by the Muskingum River with family and friends.

We know because of her love for Christ, Brenda is with Him forever in heaven.  As a sister, mother, aunt, maw-maw, and friend, Brenda will be missed deeply by all who loved her.

"Don't let your hearts be troubled.  Trust in God, and trust also in Me.  There is more than enough room in My Father's home.  If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?  When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am."
