Obituary

Carol Ann Rush Thompson passed away on March 28, 2025, and went to be with her Lord and Savior, and reunited with her husband. She was born on October 20, 1943, in Columbus, Ohio, daughter to the late Lora and Merlin Rush.

Carol graduated from Eastmoor High School and The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. She began her profession as an elementary teacher in Columbus where she taught for 30 years. She finished her career teaching kindergarten at Scottwood Elementary in the only round classroom in central Ohio. Carol filled her classroom with laughter, love and with many hanging baskets and plants.

She was married to the love of her life Lawrence (Larry) Stephen Thompson for 43 years.

Larry passed on November 22, 2013. She and Larry lived in Columbus all of their adult lives.

Carol was a faithful servant of God and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Whitehall and then transferred to Peace Lutheran Church in Gahanna.

She is survived by her beloved daughter, Kimberley Sue Thompson Wells, son-in-law, Shawn Wells and her grandchildren Cody Flynn, Conner Patrick, and Kaitlyn Flannery. She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard (Dick) Rush and sister, Jean (Rush) McCray.

Carol's life was devoted to teaching and caring for children. Carol loved teaching so much that she named her only daughter, Kimberley, after one of her favorite kindergarteners.

Grandma Carol retired from teaching to care for her three grandchildren. You could always find her out at the Licking Heights baseball, football, and soccer sporting events cheering them on!

A Celebration of Life service will be held on April 25, 2025, at Peace Lutheran Church, 455 Clark State Road, Gahanna 43230. There will be visitation with the family from 10am until 11am and service to follow at 11am. Service presided by Pastor Doug Warburton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you continue Carol's tradition of supporting the Epilepsy Foundation at epilepsy.com or the Epilepsy Alliance of Ohio at epilepsy-ohio.org, or bring a children's book to the memorial service to be donated to Columbus Public Schools in her honor.
