Mother Doris Mildred Fitts, 95, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully with family by her side, on December 21, 2024. Doris was born on March 27, 1929, in Covington, Virginia, to Clarence Allen and Lucille Allen. She was raised in Ronceverte, West Virginia, and graduated from Greenbrier High School.
In 1948, Doris moved to Ohio, where she began a remarkable life of resilience, love, and service. In 1950, she married William Lacy and raised four children who came from this union: Victoria, Sheila, Nick, and Cynthia. As a single mother, Doris worked tirelessly at multiple jobs to provide for her family. Her strength and dedication were exemplified in 1968 when she began her career at Western Electric and retired.
Doris married Porter Fitts in 1969, and they built a life filled with love and devotion to family. Doris had a passion for cooking, sewing, decorating, and doting on her grandchildren, who brought her so much joy.
In 1972, Doris became a devoted member of the Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith, dedicating her life to serving the Lord. Later, she joined Zion Christian Assemblies under the leadership of Bishop William M. Polly, where she faithfully served until her health declined. Doris was known for her generosity, often preparing meals for families in the church and sharing her unwavering faith. Even during her illness, she continued to testify to God's goodness and delighted in singing praises to Him.
Doris is survived by her children: Victoria (Ron Banks), Sheila Toney, Nick (Vera Lacy), and Cynthia (Ron Robertson); her sister, Cornelia Bush; her brother, Donald (Diane) Haynes; grandchildren: Michelle ( Earron) West, Arden Banks, Tamala Toney, Donte´ Mitchell, Christopher Toney, Ryan Robertson, Brooke Blazer, Alston, Cameron Robertson, and Nicholas (Alejandra) Lacy, Megan & Marie Hunter; great-grandchildren; Sydnee Banks, Elijah West, Roszlyn & Maddox Robertson, Nicolette Lacy, Noelle Hart, Layanna Toney, 4 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Mother's life was a testament to faith, love, and perseverance. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, service, and unwavering devotion to her family and her Lord. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
We know that she is now resting in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! AMEN
