Dorothy Jean Haynes, age 91, passed away on July 23, 2023, after a short illness. She was a native of Asheville, North Carolina where she grew up and graduated from Stephens Lee High School in 1951. She then attended Cosmetology School in Asheville, NC as well as in New York City, where she received her cosmetology license. She later owned two Beauty Shops. She was known at the "Press and Curl Queen". In North Carolina she could lock a curl that you could NOT sweat out. She worked as a Beautician for over 60 years. She was also a nurse's aide and a private duty nurse in North Carolina and Pennsylvania. She officially retired in 1991 and moved to Columbus, Ohio to be here with her family. She was a member of Miller Ave. Church of Christ, Columbus, Ohio. Mom enjoyed sending words of encouragement through her card ministry. Mom never met a stranger. She was very friendly and loving to anyone she encountered. She uplifted the members of her community at Otterbein New Albany, staff included. She is preceded in death by her first-born daughter, Hope Denise, then her parents Edward Lee Mason and Thelma Louise Mason, then by her great great granddaughter, Noelani Lemon. She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Ricky (Brenda) Mason of McDonough, GA; four daughters, Debra Mason, Regina Haynes, Tina (Brien) Oliver, Ann (Charles) Wilson, all of Columbus, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; numerous cousins and other relatives from North Carolina, New Jersey, Georgia, and Tennessee. Special thanks to: Otterbein Senior Life of New Albany, Echo Hospice of Ohio, Washington Adult Day Care Columbus, Ohio, Staff of National Church Residence, Columbus, Ohio, Pastor Timothy Clarke and 1st Church of God, Evans Funeral Home and Rees' Flowers. Funeral service Monday, July 31, 2023, 12:00 Noon EVANS FUNERAL HOME 4171 E. Livingston Ave. where friends may call 1 hour prior to service. Pastor George Fultz officiating. Interment Eastlawn Cemetery.
