George Israel Bragg, age 94, of Columbus OH passed away Sunday, March 23, 2025. He was born on December 11, 1930, in the coal mining town of Minden, WV to the late James Michael and Alice May (Johnson) Bragg.

George incurred many hardships early in life, beginning with the passing of his mother at the age of 4. Within a year, the family unit was separated. The older children found places to live, and the younger children were placed in the Union Mission orphanage in Charleston, WV by his father who was unable to care for them. At the Union Mission, George developed his deep faith in God and the bible. At the age of 11, he went to live with his late sister, Orva and her new family in Oak Hill, WV. At the age of 13, his father died of a heart attack in the coal mine. George eventually quit high school to work in the company store for the New River Coal Company in Lochgelly, WV. At the age of 20, he joined the Army and was stationed in Munich, Germany during post-World War 2 occupation. After the Army, he came home to Oak Hill briefly before heading north to Columbus to connect with his brother, James and find work. Approximately 18 months later, he met the love of his life. They were married after a 3-month courtship. He was once again part of a huge family with his wife's parents and her 9 brothers and sisters.

After getting married, George spent most of his working years as a warehouseman at Albers and Landmark, and a security guard for Ohio Support Services.

George is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Bonnie (Babbert), son, James Micheal Bragg II, daughter, Cynthia Lucille Bragg, sister-in-law's Jean England, Jo Ann Rhinehart, Marilyn Whitaker, and numerous nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his siblings, Herbert, James, Harry, Curtis, Orva Conley, Effie Windon, Alice Wood, Janet, baby Bragg; brothers-in-law, Robert, Wayne, Alvin, Ronald, Harold, and Richard Babbert.

George had a shy, humble, reserved personality, but once he warmed up to you, he would love to share stories with you. He was greatly admired and loved by all who knew him. Some of his greatest joys were traveling, figuring out how to fix something, bluegrass and classic country music, and reminiscing of past times. He had a beautiful soul and a heart of gold that he often wore on his sleeve. His love for his wife was evident all the way to the end.

Friends may call Friday, April 4, 2025, 4-7 pm EVANS FUNERAL HOME 4171 E. Livingston Ave, Columbus OH. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 10:00 am. Interment Glen Rest Memorial Estates in Reynoldsburg, OH.

In lieu of flowers, George would have suggested that you donate to a charity of your choice. He often donated to several, with his favorites being the American Heart Association, Easter Seals, Leukemia Society, March of Dimes, Mid-Ohio Food Collective, Good Will, Faith Mission, Salvation Army, Red Cross, VFW, and Disabled American Veterans.
