Obituary

George Vernon Slonaker, 90, passed away on October 20, 2021, in Springfield, OH. A native of Pataskala, Vernon was born on Nov. 23, 1930, to the late George Harrison and Leola Warton Slonaker. He was a proud member of the 1949 class of Summit Station High School.

Vernon owned and operated the family farm and property for nearly 70 years, including Slonaker Boat Storage on Mink Rd. A master plumber, he also taught at the Alum Creek Technical School for many years.

He was a founding member of the Reynoldsburg Seventh Day Adventist Church and was also a member of Humboldt Lodge #476 F&AM, where he was a Past Master. Vernon was the chairman of the Lima Township Zoning Board of Appeals and was instrumental in its merger with the city of Pataskala in 1996. Vernon was also a candidate for mayor of Pataskala in 1997. Vernon enjoyed studying family history, military history, religion, and spending time in his Florida home in Inverness with his wife, Darlene.

Vernon was preceded in death by his four brothers Francis (Olivia), Emmett (Grace), Bill (Ruby) and Bob; and son-in-law Tom Harsh. Vernon is survived by the love of his life, Darlene Eloise Sells, with whom he shared 72 years of married life; his three children, Diane Harsh, Joann (Richard) Ashworth, Richard (Laura) Slonaker; grandsons, Shawn (Jen) Harsh their children, Addison and Jude; Ryan (Staci) and their children Parker and Paige; Philip (Annette) Slonaker and their son Eli; Nathan (Cecilia) Slonaker and their children, Casto, Tori and Ellie, Ben (Fernanda) Slonaker, Andrew (Ronnell) Ashworth and their children Christian and Haley; granddaughter Lindsay (David) Holmes and their children Wesley, Solomon, Avonlea and Aurora; nephews, Howard (Sandra) Slonaker, Robert Slonaker, Roger (Sandra) Slonaker, Nick (Bev) Slonaker.

Visitation with the family will be from 3pm-6pm on Sunday, Oct. 24, at EVANS FUNERAL HOME 4171 E. Livingston Ave. where funeral service will be held on Monday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m.

Interment will be at Forrest Lawn Cemetery.
