Obituary

Helma Stegmeyer English went to be with Our Lord on August 8, 2021.  Born in Menzingen, Germany in 1929, she spent much of her youth in Heilbronn, Germany until meeting the love of her life during WWII.   She married Theodore "Ted" English on 12/8/1951 upon which they returned together to the United States. First living in Flint, MI she attended the University of Michigan but then moved to Ohio where she graduated Valedictorian from Ohio Northern University.  She continued her education at Ohio State University where she then received her Master's Degree in Education.  She spent her career as an educator for over 30 years with the Columbus City School District where she taught both German and English.  She retired from her career as a Guidance Counselor from Independence High School.  A resident of Gahanna for over 50 years she loved her neighbors and community as much as family.  She also enjoyed spending her time as a long time member of the Germania Singing and Sport Society in Columbus, where she was a part of the German Singing Choir and travelled around Ohio and other states singing traditional German melodies.

Helma was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore English; her parents Eugen and Mina Stegmeyer; sister Erika Ella and brother Theodor Stegmeyer. She is survived by her daughter Pamela (Richard Green) Sidonis; grandchildren Erica (Chris) Childers, Joshua (Whitney) Sidonis, great-granddaughter Lorelei Childers; brothers Gerd Stegmeyer and Karl (Paula) Stegmeyer; sister-in-law Danica Stegmeyer and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
