Obituary

Horace Milton Newell age 101 passed away Saturday, September 21, 2024.  Horace was born March 30, 1923, in Moulton, Alabama. He was a proud Veteran of the US Army serving in World War II. He moved to Columbus after the war, met and married Frances.  They raised their family in Whitehall. Horace enjoyed camping with the family and loved fishing. He was known for his fried fish, fried pies, and Pizzelles. He kept things lively at home with unlimited pranks. Dad often kept us in amazement. He could figure out how to do anything with varying measures of success but always a grin. Horace was very friendly and never met a stranger.  He welcomed everybody to our home and had many good friends of all ages.  He was especially lucky to meet Anne Leach, who was a cherished friend over the last several years. His most recent friends were made at Cherry Blossom Senior Living, where he spent his last five years. The family would like to express our heartfelt appreciation for the many staff members at Cherry Blossom who made his stay there feel like home.  We also want to give a very special thank you to Mindy Gullatte, who was his excellent caregiver and became a very good friend and Capital City Hospice. Preceded in death by wife of 57 years, Frances and son Tim.  Survived by daughters Becky (Riccardo Pastori) and Betsy (Frank VanKirk), son Bill (Debbie), and daughter-in-law Barbara Newell. 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday September 30th at Cherry Blossom Senior Living, 79 Blossom Field Blvd, Columbus, Ohio 43213.
