Jackie
Bryant
Jan 9, 1943 — Mar 5, 2025
Jackie Bryant (Air Force Ret.) (1942-2025)
On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, we said goodbye to an incredible man—our beloved father,
brother, husband, and friend, Jackie Bryant. At 82 years old, he left behind a legacy of love,
service, and unwavering dedication to family and country.
Born to Ruth Nell Roberts and Oliver Bryant in Perry, Georgia, during the era of segregation,
Jackie grew up with a deep sense of resilience, determination, and pride in his roots. Jackie
proudly served in the United States Air Force (USAF) for over 20 years, retiring as a Master
Sergeant. He wore his USAF cap and retiree pins daily and with a great sense of pride.
Jackie's military service in the Air Force took him around the world, but he never lost touch with
his southern roots, traveling back to Georgia often to visit his mother, siblings, and lifelong
friends. In his retirement, he continued to serve, and was a mentor and role model for young
Black men in underserved schools in Columbus, Ohio, and Macon Georgia.
A pillar of wisdom and strength, Jackie was the heart and soul of his family. As a devoted father,
he instilled in his three daughters—Jacqueline, Vicki, and Pamela—strength, independence, and
valuable life tools, including a strong work ethic. He cherished time with loved ones and friends
through traveling, card games and DJing (before it was cool), boat fishing, restoring cars, and his
endless DIY projects. He was more than a father or brother—he was a husband, counselor, a
mentor, and a true friend. Jackie's legacy is one of honor, family, and service.
Jackie Bryant is survived by his wife, Doris Douglas-Bryant; daughters Jacqueline Bryant, Vicki
Bryant, and Pamela Lloyd (Donald); step-sons Maurice Douglas (Laura) and Marius Douglas
(Sylvia); sisters Deborah Roberts (Al), Janet Davis (Jim), Celestine Clarington,
Bonita Jackson (Kevin), and Belinda Spellman (Patrick); grandchildren Ryan, Roni, Reece,
Kieren, Shae, Brea, Lauryn, Morgan, and Camryn, as well as numerous nieces, nephews,
extended family, and cherished friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Roberts (Ben); father, Oliver Bryant; sisters,
Annette Traynham (Richard) and Bennie Marshall (George); brother Ben Roberts Jr.; grandson
Tynan Douglas, and ex-wife Nora Jane Bryant.
Jackie Bryant will be interned at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. A special
Memorial service will be held on April 12,2025, 10:30 am, at Evans Funeral Home, 4171 E. Livingston
Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43227. Arrangements may be sent to this location.
A mighty oak has fallen, but its roots remain strong. We miss you, Jackie, and your legacy will
never fade.
