James Mitchell Jr., age 67, of Columbus, passed away April 10, 2025. Born July 8, 1957, in Charleston, South Carolina; he was the son of James Mitchell Sr. and the late Geneva Hamlet, stepdad the late great Fats Hamlet. James proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps. He later worked as a water analyst servicing water treatment systems before retiring. Surviving are his wife, Kelly Jo McCoy, sons, Shawnte Mitchell and girlfriend Nikita, James Lucas, Jamie Lucas, Jamel Lucas, Luwan Briggs, Justin McCoy, Jacob McCoy, and James Mitchell III, sisters, Marie Granderson, Trudy Mitchell, and Bertha Hamlet; brother Darnel Hamlet. Also surviving are, grandchildren, Devon, Laurynn, Aaliyah, Isaiah Mcroy, Callie McCoy, nieces and nephews, Daryl Hamlet, Tiara Wilson, Tyrone Woods, Danielle Latham, Daylin Hamlet, Ajah, Reginald, Jordan Lucas, Lindsay Lucas, and Phoenix Ervin. Funeral services will be held Thursday May 1, 2025, 11:00 AM Evans Funeral Home, 4171 East Livingston Avenue, Columbus Ohio. The family will welcome friends one hour prior to the service. James will be laid to rest at Dayton National Cemetery, Dayton Ohio.
