It was a cloudy Friday in Paintsville, Kentucky when Peggy Rae (Jackson)Salyer gave birth to a baby boy. And she named him after his father, James R. Salyer. Their son was lovingly known as "Rusty" to his family and friends.

And on a cold Tuesday January day at his childhood home in Reynoldsburg, Ohio the Lord blessed him with a familiar place to depart this life.

He is preceded in death by his Father James R.Salyer, Sr. three siblings, brother Bob Rice, brother Tim Salyer and sister Lorna Rae (Salyer)Whitesel.

He is survived by his mother Peggy Rae Salyer, four siblings Daphne (Scott)Jarrell and Loren (Mary)Salyer, Linda Burton and Debbie Salyer.

Rusty had no children of his own, but there was no shortage of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews by the Salyer clan to fill that spot in his life. Uncle Russ was loved by each and every one of them. He had two special friends in his lifetime, Larry and Jacquelyn.

Rusty was born into a hardworking family and worked hard all his life as a skilled "Jack of all Trades". Russ could do it all. Plumbing, carpentry, drywall, framing. You name it he could do it. He was just a call away at any time and he would be there to lend a helping hand or fix anything that needed fix-n.

We will miss his louder than life personality and his great sarcastic wit that made us laugh and he is loved by many. He was just Rusty. An original. Russ was a big Ohio State Buckeye fan on Saturdays and a diehard Cincinnati Bengals every day of the week. Along with watching his Bengals and Buckeyes play Russ could play a mean game of billiards too. He loved comedy shows and watching comedic acts. Rusty's loving and helping heart for his fellow man would bless so many on his journey in this life. It was his job here to fix and build things with his hands. But he used his heart to fix and build relationships with love that would last far longer than anything he laid his hands to. We all know that in Heaven there is nothing broken or in need of fix-n. But if there was, God would call upon Rusty to get the job done. Rest well Russ and we will see you at the house for supper. Save us a spot at the table and we will see you there when we get our job done here.
