Joseph Miles, "Joe" Thomas, age 82, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2024. Joe was born on August 22, 1941, in Columbus, Ohio to George and Martha Thomas. Joe grew up on the south side of Columbus where he attended Columbus South High School. After an early graduation, Joe enlisted in the US Air Force which took him to the Philippines where he served in the MP. During his time in the Air Force, Joe was recognized and awarded for his precise shooting capabilities and was also a featherweight boxer. He carried his love of the military and his knowledge and appreciation of weaponry with him for the rest of his life.

After being honorably discharged, Joe worked for Rockwell International in Newark, Ohio, where he was accepted into an apprenticeship as a tool and die maker. Upon completion of his apprenticeship Joe was employed by General Motors in Columbus, Ohio as a tool and die maker until he retired.

Joe was an avid car enthusiast, although Cadillacs were his favorite. He took great pride in restoring classic automobiles. He was a member of the Cadillac LaSalle Club and enjoyed showing the classic cars that he had personally restored. He was very proud of the many trophies he had acquired over the years. Reading, crossword puzzles, his cat, Crusoe and spending time with daughter and his grandson were what brought Joe the most joy in his later years. Joe was also very passionate about his love of Jesus and his faith in the word of God.

Joe is survived by his former wife and friend, Lucy Thomas; his daughter Stephanie (Bill); his grandson, John Thomas; and brother, Jim Thomas. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, George and Martha Thomas.

Joe will be forever missed by those who truly knew the compassionate, giving, kind and loving yet stubborn and obstinate man who was always there when needed. His later years brought out a more gentle, humble and gracious soul than anyone ever knew, but will never forget.

A private graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024.
