KATHLEEN (McCarthy) POWERS

Age 88 – Whitehall, Ohio

Kathleen M. Powers, age 88 of Whitehall, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 26, 2024, at Embassy of Pickerington after a brief illness. Kathleen (Kathy) was born March 26, 1936, to the late Dr. Kenneth C. and Elizabeth McCarthy of Toledo, Ohio. Kathy grew up in Toledo, Ohio, and graduated from Libbey High School in 1954. She graduated from The Ohio State University with a B.S. in primary education. Kathy was a member of Phi Mu Sorority at Ohio State. She was an active member of Mifflin Presbyterian Church in Gahanna and at Shady Lane Presbyterian Church in Columbus, where she was the Director of Pre-School for 15 years. Kathy loved volunteering her time at the Ohio Statehouse as a docent for 17 years, giving tours to thousands of schoolchildren and was recognized several times for her excellent service. Kathy was a volunteer with TWIG for Nationwide Children's Hospital, and as a CAPA usher. She enjoyed going to concerts and loved music, especially if her husband or children were playing concerts. She was very proud and supportive of her family's musical gifts. Kathy was an avid gardener, bridge card player, and loved to entertain people. She enjoyed the Red Hat Society, Derby Day parties, casino trips, her family and her little dog, Sammy. Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, stepmother Shirley McCarthy, and her brothers Brian and Terrance McCarthy. She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Roger L. Powers, daughter Beth Ann Powers, son David (Annette Franks) Powers and sister Patricia A. Jones. There will be a private service for the family. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Franklin County Humane Society may be made in her memory.
