Kenyatta Montril
Keeno
Aug 28, 1975 — Oct 21, 2022
Columbus
Kenyatta Keeno passed away unexpectedly on October 21st, 2022. Born August 28th, 1975, to Johnnie Mae Lance and David Simmons in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He attended Socastee High School and relocated to Columbus, Ohio at age 18 where he began pursuing his hip-hop dreams. If you ever went to an open mic night in Columbus in the late 90's or 2000's you definitely knew who Kenyatta Keeno was. Always ready with a witty freestyle, a smile, a laugh, a joke, or a wild dance move, he loved to entertain. Later in life Kenyatta found another creative outlet working as a chef at several restaurants around Columbus. Music was his outlet and the way he shared his life story, his thoughts, his struggles, and his dreams. The last stage name he was known by "Kenyatta Freedom", is a statement in itself. Freedom was what he was fighting for his entire life,in many different ways. Although he is no longer with us, he would not want us to be sad as he is finally free of all the struggles and demons that had affected his life. Let us celebrate his freedom, not mourn his death. Kenyatta was preceded in death by his mother, Johnnie Mae Lance, whom he loved incredibly. Survived by his favorite (and only) son Isaac J. Keeno. Fathers David Simmons (Judy) and Melvin Pennington. Siblings Andre Keeno, Yolonda Keeno, Maneak Keeno and Shannon Keeno. Aunt Barbara Lance. Uncles Ricky Lance (Michelle), Wallace Lance. Longtime partner-Summre Jones. Special friend-Carrie Gaston Jackson. Many other cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family. Memorial visitation will be held, Tuesday, November 8, 2022, 5-7 PM EVANS FUNERAL HOME 4171 E.
