Lynne Louise (Woodruff) Smith

On July 26, 1947 a daughter was born to Emerson (Pete) Hayes Woodruff and Elsie Pennell Woodruff.  They named her Lynne Louise Woodruff.  Lynne was their only child.  The family lived in Columbus and Lynne has lived here her entire life.

A Memorial Service for Lynne will be held at 1:30 PM Saturday, October 26, 2024 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses located at 570 Robinwood Avenue in Columbus, Ohio 43209.

She graduated from Eastmoor High School in 1965 and then attended the Bliss College for two years.  She took secretarial courses and worked to support herself, becoming an executive secretary to the President of the National Electric Coil plant on W. 5th Ave. In 1968 she enrolled in the Ohio Dominican College and was majoring in English.

In 1968 she met Glenn Smith and after 18 months they married on December 26, 1969.  Their son Kevin Smith was born to them on April 2, 1971.

Her parents preceded her in death and are sorely missed.

Lynne peacefully passed away on September 17, 2024 after having suffered for five years from Alzheimer's Disease. Sadly her life was cut short.  She had lived 77 years.

She is survived by her husband Glenn, her Son Kevin and Daughter-in-law Kelly.  Numerous cousins include Karen Cooperider, and Guy & Donna Cooperider.

Lynne and Glenn were baptized as Jehovah's Witnesses in December of 1973 in London, Ohio.  Lynne served faithfully for over 50 years.  She and Glenn were part of a small group who decided to learn the Russian language and formed a Russian Group which later became a Congregation.  They decided to become full-time Pioneers (Evangelizers) after Glenn retired.  They were able serve in that capacity for a period of three and a half years before the ravages of her disease made it impossible for them to continue.

Lynne loved Ballroom dance and she and Glenn were avid amateur dancers here in the Columbus dance scene.  She loved to vacation in Maine and she and Glenn had the opportunity to travel overseas several times.

As a mother, Lynne was responsible for teaching her son how to read and write at an early age.  She was a dedicated homemaker for most of her married life.  But for brief periods, when her family needed her help, she returned to the workplace.

She is remembered by most who knew her as a sweet lady who always supported her family.  She is sorely missed.  She and Glenn enjoyed 55 years of marriage.  Her family wants to express heartfelt thanks to the ones who helped care for Lynne.  This includes Central Ohio Hospice and members of local congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses who came together and supported the family.  Their dedication and willingness to lovingly help can never be adequately recompensed.
