Melva Cotyk Abrams, age 84, passed away peacefully at her residence at the Port Orange Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Port Orange, Florida on Tuesday, July 20, 2021. Melva was born in Columbus, Ohio on December 8, 1936 to the late C. Wilbur (Esq.) and Melva Davis Hatch. She graduated from Columbus North High School, Class of 1955, and resided in North Columbus until her marriage to the late George L. Cotyk on July 30, 1955. Melva was a homemaker while her children were young and went on to work at Lazarus Eastland, the Columbus Dental Manufacturing Company, and later with the federal government at the Defense Supply Center Columbus (DSCC) until her retirement in 1998. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and the father of her children, George L. Cotyk in 2002 (married 47 years), infant son Joseph, and her second husband Ray C. Abrams in 2016 (married 12 years). Melva was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Groveport, Ohio. A memorial service will be held at Evans Funeral Home, 4171 E. Livingston Ave, Columbus, Ohio on Monday October 10, 2022 from 10:00-12:00am. After which she will be interred at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery 6440 South High Street, Lockbourne, Ohio.
