Michael L. "Mickey" Smith, age 84. Sunrise: August 25, 1937, in Chattaroy, WV. Sunset: January 20, 2022, in Columbus, OH. He was born to parents William Hubert and Ruth Elizabeth (Wells) Smith. He was a 1956 graduate of Williamson High School. In 1962, he moved from Huntington, WV to Columbus. He worked as a shift supervisor with American Standard from 1962-70, and from 1970-99 as a forklift operator with Kroger. Youth sports were important to Mickey. He had the privilege of coaching football for the Walnut Heights Packers and coaching baseball at Shadywood over two decades. He liked watching most sporting events and was an avid baseball fan. Later, he turned to playing in local golf leagues with friends. He also loved dancing, all kinds of music, and was often seen strumming his guitar. Family was everything for Mickey, and he supported his children and grandchildren in all of their passions. "Stay out of the deep water," was always his advice when he parted ways with the people he cared for. He is preceded in death by his wife, Linda Lea (Johnson) Smith, his high school sweetheart whom he was married to for 52 years and cared for until her sunset. Also preceded in death by daughter, Lora Denise Silvey; granddaughter Kristen Dodge; and brothers William "Tom" Smith and Allen "David" Smith. He is survived by his children, Lisa Dawn (Rex) Gabriel and Michael Brian (Lori) Smith; grandchildren Amy Gabriel, Brian Gabriel, Jamey (Dustin) McKee, Tracy (Mark) King, Kara Smith and Evan Smith; great-grandchildren Zachary and Mason McKee, and Ella and Ethan King; siblings Estella Stollings, Sandra McDonald, Debby Rudy, Robert "Larry" Smith, and Richard "Rick" Smith.
