Myra died on October 7th, 2025, at the age of eighty-seven.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret Elizabeth Mendenhall Kollmer and Henry Floyd Kollmer, her cousin Ronald Kollmer Bell and many dear friends. She is survived by her ex-husband and various cousins and friends.
She graduated from Bexley High School, as well as Lynchburg College, in Lynchburg, Virginia. She received a Master of Religious Education degree from Oberlin College.
During her college years she worked during the summers at various camps in Ohio, Michigan and New York. Following college, she worked in Washington D.C. as a beginning schoolteacher and later she worked at the National Presbyterian Church as secretary to the Pastor of Christian Education.
She started her career at the Huron County Welfare Office before joining the Erie-Huron Community Action Commission which was part of Johnson's War on Poverty. She served as a direct service worker until she was promoted prior to Roe vs Wade to Director of a small Family Planning Program. They worked on educating women about contraceptives (a controversial issue at the time).
Later, she worked with the Ohio Department of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. (Dept. of MR/DD,) as a protective service worker, case manager and eventually was promoted to Intake Supervisor.
She moved back to Columbus and worked with a protective service agency before moving to the Franklin County Board of MR/DD. where she served as a case manager.
She finished her career as the Staff Developer of the County Board's Residential Program. She was responsible for setting-up and maintaining their training program for their staff.
She was active in her church, Gender Road Christian Church, the Spirituality Network, Wellstreams Program and was past-President, Vice- President of Programs and secretary for the Columbus International Program. Most recently she served as one of her denomination's representatives on the Metropolitan Area Council of Churches, where she served as secretary and Vice-President.
A celebration of Myra's life will take place on Monday, October 20th, at Gender Road Christian Church 5336 Gender Road, Canal Winchester, OH 43110. Rev. John Romig officiating. Visitation starts at 10am, Service at 11am. Lunch will be served after the service.
