In Loving Memory of Norma Janette Claudette Hurt 1933-2026

With profound sadness, and hearts filled with love and gratitude, we share the passing of Norma Janette Claudette Hurt, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and cherished friend.

Norma’s life was one of love, dedication, strength, family, and service to others. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy that will continue through the generations of family she loved so dearly.

She was preceded by her beloved husband, Jesse Hurt; mother, Wenona Doers; father, Harry Francis; brother, Arthur Doers and her beloved daughter, Shaun Armstrong (Kevin) and beloved son, Chet Peniston.

Left behind to cherish her memory her siblings, Cecile Doers, Yvonne Pearman, Annette Lightbourne, Dennis Francis; and children, Michele Tanner (Steven), Margo Doers (Dorie), and Mitchell Hurt (Trina); and nieces Maxine Douglas and Marjorie DeSilva.

Norma’s love will continue to live through her grandchildren Blake Tanner, Danay Armstrong, Demitria Armstrong, Breece Tanner, Sydney Steward-Cleveland, Julian Knight, and Elijah Hurt; and great-grandchildren Canaan Tanner, Chayse Tanner, and Aubry Armstrong.

Norma held a special place in her heart for many people whose love and friendship enriched her life. Among those she leaves behind are her special cousins: Andre Pitcher, June Simons, Lynn Smith, and every cherished friend who loved her.

To know Norma was to know a woman who loved deeply, gave generously, spoke honestly, and carried her family in her heart. She possessed a wonderful sense of humor and a distinctive style; her presence could fill a room, and her love could make you feel as though you belonged.

Mrs. Norma shared her loving support at the United Methodist Church Free Store for more than 20 years. When asked what kept her coming back after all those years; she would say without hesitation, “You give love and you get it back.”

Although her earthly journey has come to an end, Norma’s story does not; her story continues in every lesson she taught, every life she touched, every family tradition she helped create, every story that will be told about her, and most importantly, in the legacy of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Hold on to the beautiful truth that love does not die when someone we love leaves this earth, it simply changes the way it lives within us. Rest peacefully Norma, your work here is finished; your love remains and your memory is eternal.
