Savannah B Abernathy LPN AAS
April 14th, 1944 - December 7th, 2023
Savannah B Abernathy (affectionately known as Abby) was born April 18th, 1944
in Lynn Mississippi to Robert Smith Sr. and Catherine Whitfield.
She is preceded in death by brother Robert Smith Jr. and sisters Betty Jean, Rosie
Lee, Lucie.
She graduated nursing school in 1968 with her Licensed Practical Nurse
certification from New York, She maintained her license in (9) nine different states.
She was a Director of Nursing with Becare Nursing Home Columbus, Ohio
1984-1989. She also worked at Isabella Ridgeway Nursing Home as well as
Patterson Nursing Home.
Abby was a devoted mother, moving her family to Columbus, Ohio in 1982.
Always wanting to have the "American Dream" of family, Abby focused on
education, actually requiring it as a standard in her household.
In 1988 December 8th Abby graduated with her AAS degree in Social Work from
Columbus Technical Institute which is now known as Columbus State Community
College.
Also she was a community activist in starting and maintaining a block watch
program on E. 15th Ave (in the Linden Area). Savannah was involved in tenants
rights through the Columbus Urban League
Savannah is survived by sister Flossie Whitfield, two sons, Vegas Marshall Smith
and Anthony Lorenzo Price (Stacey); granddaughters Sunserraye Jackson (Dawan)
and Billie Bates with seven great grandchildren.
Abby has left a legacy of love, dedication, and sacrifice that each of family
members will remember. She has shown her family how to be examples of
dedication, and integrity for this world.
Savannah (Abby) believed in God and was strong in her faith as evidenced in her
many prayer and "Thank You God" journals
