Steve
Watkins
Aug 12, 1938 — Jul 22, 2026
Columbus
William S. "Steve" Watkins, age 87, passed away peacefully at his home on July 22, 2026, after an extended period of illness and declining health.
Steve was born on August 12, 1938, in Durham, North Carolina. He shared 63 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Jeannette (Vuksanovich) Watkins. Together they made their home in Columbus, Ohio, where they lived in the same house throughout their marriage, building a lifetime of memories.
Steve enjoyed fishing and dancing and appreciated the simple comforts of home. He spent his career in the shoe industry, serving as a store and district manager. While his work was focused on shoes, it was the relationships he built with coworkers and customers that meant the most to him. He often shared stories from his years in retail, recalling the people and experiences that made his career memorable.
Steve was a dedicated Mason, serving as Past Master of Sunrise Lodge #783 in 1975. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge where he enjoyed playing cards and the shared camaraderie of the club.
Steve and Jeannette were longtime members of Shady Lane Presbyterian Church and, in recent years, attended Unity Presbyterian Church in Reynoldsburg.
Steve is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Jeannette; his daughters, Sara, Amy, and Anita; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind extended family and friends who will miss him, especially for the many stories he shared throughout his life.
Steve's greatest legacy was the home and family he and Jeannette built together over more than six decades. The family is grateful that he was able to spend his final days peacefully at home, surrounded by the love and comfort of those around him.
