Susan Irene Spears, 77, of Columbus passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2022.

Sue was born in Lakehurst, New Jersey to parents M. Eugene and Gladys Reid on October 15, 1945.  Sue graduated from Rootstown High School in 1963 and Ohio Northern University in 1967. She spent her entire work career as a social worker at Franklin County Department of Job and Family Services.  After her retirement she spent 16 years volunteering at the United Methodist Free Store on Parsons Ave., receiving a Volunteer of the Year Award. Sue was a lifelong United Methodist, and an active member of Christ United Methodist Church in Columbus for many years. She and her late husband, Ron, oversaw the acolytes for many years.  She served on the Pastor Parish Relations Committee and the Worship Committee as well.  She was also a delegate to the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church in Lakeside, Ohio.  She loved going to Lakeside for the annual conference, having attended the Summer Institute there as a teenager and worked there during college.  Sue was also active in the Bread Outreach Program.   Sue enjoyed making her own cards to send out for special occasions.  She loved music, especially Southern Gospel; loved crocheting and reading mystery novels and watching many of the reality competitions on TV.  Sue loved baking, cooking, trying out new recipes, and going to new restaurants.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents M. Eugene and Gladys Reid; husbands Wilburt "Pete" Harris and Ronald H. Spears.  Sue is survived by siblings: Pamela J. (Susan Kolarik) Reid of Akron, Ohio; Ronald S. (Joan) Reid of Safety Harbor, Florida; and David W. (Doreen) Reid of Trinity, Florida.  She is also survived by best friend and "sister" of 59 years Sharon Allen and her daughter Jessica Allen both of Columbus, Ohio, who have been a part of the family for years.

Family will receive friends at Christ United Methodist Church, 1480 Zettler Rd., Columbus, Ohio, Friday, January 6, 2023, at 10 a.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. The Memorial Service will be officiated by Pastors Curnell Graham and Glenn Schwerdtfeger. There will be a luncheon immediately following the service for all attending.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Christ United Methodist Church on Zettler Ave., Columbus.
