Obituary

Tom Fitch, Jr. of Columbus, Ohio went to be with The Lord on June 29,
2024 at the age of 100 years.
Tom was born in Nolan, WV on Feb. 23, 1924, to Tom and Maude
(Blevins) Fitch, Sr. He was the eldest son of 10 siblings. Sisters Martha,
Kathryn, Mable, Betty and Ruth. Brothers Jerry, Rebrun, Bill, Donald and
Elmer Ray.
He served in the Civilian Conservation Corp prior to enlistment in The
U.S. Army in 1942 where he served as a medic until his honorable discharge in
1946 with a rank of Private. During his military service Tom
was aboard the famous Aquitania troop transfer ship during a voyage when
British newspapers had reported it sunk by the German Navy because it was so
late arriving in port.
Tom's first wife, Frances Taylor of Scotland, presented him with his first
child, Helen (Dempsey). Frances later died during delivery of a second child.
He later married Etta Robinson of WV. Etta bore Tom a son, Billy and
daughter Frances (Terranova). Tom and Etta were married for approx. 63
years until her passing in 2015.
Tom was a member of First Calvary EB Church for many years and
served several years as a trustee and also custodian. He retired from General
Motors after 31 years of service at the Columbus Plant.
He was preceded in death by his parents Tom, Sr. and Maude and
brothers Jerry, Rebrun, Bill and Elmer Ray and by sisters Martha (Stotridge),
Kathryn (Hall) and Betty (Kinney) and Etta's son by a previous marriage,
Hubert Chafins, who he had raised as his own.
Tom is survived by Brother Donald, and sisters Mable Taylor (Edgar) and
Ruth Saunders (Jack), his daughters Helen Dempsey and Frances Terranova
(Bryon), son Billy Fitch (Sonia) and Robert Robinson, (another of Etta's sons
by her first marriage). He is also survived by grandchildren Cherry Fitch,
William Fitch (Cassie), Evie Bowles (Chad), Charlotte Harper (Michael),
Rodney Ellis (Michelle), Toby Dempsey, Bethann Seagraves (Bob), Chuck
Ramey (Amber), Joe Ramey (Brittany), Matthew Ramey (Sherry), William
Ramey (Angela) and many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren,
nephews, nieces and loving friends. Tom and Etta also raised a great
granddaughter, Star Dawn Wyatt.
Dad, we love you and miss you and look forward to being with you again
on The Great Reunion Day in the presence of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus
Christ and all His holy angels and our loved ones who have gone on before.
