Tom B. Sims, born November 27, 1941, in Osceola Arkansas; departed this life on September 14, 2023. He was the baby of thirteen children: twelve boys and one girl, born to Elix and Emmer Lee Sims. Tom moved to Chicago in 1960 where he met and married his first wife Barbara (Pickett) Sims. They relocated to Benton Harbor, MI in 1974. Of this union were born seven children, daughters Zina and Bernadette preceded him in death in 1964 and 1974 respectively. In his youth he joined a singing group called The Entertainers. His voice was powerful and anoint[1]ed. His loved singing gospel. His favorite group was the Mighty Clouds of Joy and favorite song was I'll trust in God which he sang beautifully. Tom accepted Christ at a young age and served in the ministry and choir under the leadership of the Late Bishop Howard Thomas at C.O.G.I.C in Benton Harbor, MI. He served as an usher and a member of the choir at New Birth Christian Ministries under the leadership of Bishop Kenneth Moore Sr in Columbus, OH. Although he was a machinist by profession at Clark Equipment Benton Harbor Plant for years until they closed, he worked in construction, production, and general labor. He retired from banking as a courier. He was blessed with many skills and abilities from carpentry to automotive mechanic. He was an entrepreneur having owned grocery stores, a record store, and Ice cream shop. In 1992 he met and married his wife Harriet (Gordon) Sims. This union created a blended family with Edward, Charles, Tonya, Toya, and Nadja. They were married for 24 years until her death in 2016. Tom was a brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to many. He made his mistakes and had his faults, but he was loved by many. He shared close relationships with his grandchildren: Tanisha, Damon, Aliyah, Nacjon, Cheyanne, David, Terrance, Ameenah, Ashanti, Hezakiah, Joseph, Shekia and Sydney. He was preceded in death by his lovely wife Harriet Sims, his parents, all of his siblings, and 3 children. He leaves to mourn his passing his children: Denel, Jeffery, Anthony, Lloyd and Patricia Sims; Toya Brown, Nadja Barnett and Tonya Barnett, his best friend Clarence and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and relatives. He will be forever loved and remembered.
